Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is noticeable that the range of TV shows and novels is focusing on crime-related content and is becoming quite popular among viewers. There could be several reasons, such as entertainment and personal genre preferences, which, in my opinion, is a great approach to spreading awareness through these programs.
One of the major reasons for the popularity of crime novels and dramas is that some individuals find it extremely entertaining to watch the suspense it creates to engage the public. Some people like to find clues and try to investigate the culprit which broadens their interest and develops their problem-solving skills. Moreover, watching such a genre could be a personal choice as one can use it for brain exercises to develop critical thinking skills and improve imagination. Later, this could help those who choose creative career paths.
Another reason is that it shows the darker side of human behavior. It might present the possible reasons why crimes are committed and what feasible situations could occur with that. This also illustrates that the concequences of crimes are not always positive and that the judicial system is built to eradicate them by implementing related laws.
Personally, I consider it as a positive approach as it spreads awareness to people by telecasting or writing a book about real crime incidents. Sometimes individuals find related causes and situations and deal with them before it gets worse. Additionally, this type of information could be useful for students who study law or want to join the police force. They can also brainstorm different ideas and use them in their future career.
Overall, TV serials and novels related to crime content are popular as they could be used for entertainment and educational purposes. The government should continue such programs to spread awareness among the young generation of the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and expressing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the appeal of suspense and the educational value for law students. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that crime dramas help people 'deal with' real-life causes before they get worse is a significant over-generalization and lacks concrete examples or logical depth. To reach a higher band, the arguments should be more thoroughly supported with specific examples or more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on broad assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as entertainment value or educational benefits. Cohesive devices like 'Moreover,' 'Another reason,' and 'Additionally' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and some referencing is a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking between the personal opinion section and the preceding analytical points to create a more cohesive flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'culprit,' 'judicial system,' and 'critical thinking.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'telecasting' (which is less natural in this context) and 'concequences' (a spelling error). The essay relies on fairly common language, and while it is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the more precise or sophisticated lexical items that would characterize a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is generally good control over basic grammar, and the meaning is always clear. However, there are some minor errors, such as 'the range of TV shows and novels is focusing' (which is slightly awkward) and the spelling error 'concequences.' While the writer attempts complex structures, they are not always perfectly executed. The punctuation is generally accurate, but the overall control of complex grammar is not consistent enough to reach the 7.0 band, which requires frequent error-free sentences and a wider variety of structures.
