Student answer (Band 5.5)

Across the globe there is an increasing demand for murder mystery novels and shows especially among the youth.

Crime novels and dramas tend to seek attention as it consists of graphic with bold colour and action and young individauls find it interesting. I believe that the entertainment industry needs to stop promoting the crime and use of weapons just to add more action into the story as this is impacting young minds negatively. These dramas are teaching them to kill or hurt people if a person is causing some sort of inconvinces to them. Technology being so developed that children can go on various website and learn how to assemble a gun. I came across a boy who was learning to hold the different types knife and guns from youtube. There's aneed for them to know that these weapons should just be used for self defence. Alongwith war's going on around the world there's a lot of hatred between the economies.

On the other hand, Crime novel's and crime tv shows that are based on reality and history should be shown in a positive way that it reduces the hatred and volience in the society.

The entertainment should make more movie which explains that crime destory peoples life only negatively and is of no good. World should be a peaceful and happy place to live in. Crime will only bring frustations and hatred against other people.

In conclusion, no movie, novel's or tv show should promoted crime in order to make it a profitable business. whereas it should teach people especially the young one's to help and care for all humans equally and spread love among's the nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and expressing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding the negative impact on youth is mentioned several times without significant expansion or varied supporting evidence. The personal anecdote about the boy on YouTube is a good attempt at illustration, but the connection back to the broader question of why these shows are popular is weak. The position is clear, but the essay would benefit from more nuanced exploration of why audiences find these genres compelling beyond just 'action'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression between ideas is sometimes disjointed. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion', the transitions between sentences within paragraphs are often abrupt. For instance, the jump from discussing weapon usage to 'war's going on around the world' lacks a clear logical link. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the paragraphing structure is somewhat simplistic, which hinders the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'seek attention' instead of 'attract attention' and 'inconvinces' (a misspelling of 'inconvenience'). The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, such as 'make more movie' instead of 'produce more films'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of spelling errors (e.g., 'volience', 'destory', 'amongs') limit the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'novel's', 'tv show', 'young one's'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'it consists of graphic'), and punctuation mistakes. The use of articles is also inconsistent. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures, keeping the score in the mid-range.
