Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming services and the educational value of crime dramas regarding personal safety. However, the development is somewhat limited. The argument that people watch crime shows primarily for safety and crime prevention is a bit narrow and could have been balanced with the psychological appeal of suspense or entertainment. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a basic level, preventing it from reaching the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'To recapitulate'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. For instance, the transition between the reasons for popularity and the personal opinion could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentence structures are a bit simplistic, which affects the overall flow of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. The writer uses common terms like 'very necessary part', 'large group of people', and 'huge part of the world', which are somewhat repetitive and lack precision. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'streaming sites', 'real-life crime incidents', and 'precautions', which are used correctly. However, the range is limited, and there is a lack of flexibility in word choice. To improve, the writer should aim for more varied and academic collocations rather than relying on general descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'entertainment has become very necessary part to a large group' (missing article), 'programs that runs' (subject-verb agreement), and 'means they can watch' (incorrect relative clause usage). Additionally, 'According to my opinion' is a slightly unnatural collocation; 'In my opinion' would be better. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The punctuation is generally functional.
