Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days, in many countries the craze of suspense novels and detective web series are getting famous day by day. My view points on this topic are discussed further in essay with relevant illustrations.
First and foremost reason is, the excess to streaming platform is much easier than past. To explain this, Netflix and Amazon are the two most popular platforms where people can watch any movies or web series according to their genre. Now talking about the crime dramas, about 45% of the people watch thriller shows, because the way movies are made can actually make a suspense and keep audience interested to binge watch. In additions, novels are written in a way that readers want to know who committed a crime and how that happened. They often contains unexpected twists, which makes a person engaged to finish the book at the same time.
Second reason is, crime novels and TV crime shows provide insights into criminal investigation and demonstrate how police force work and solve the felony. They can also encourage people to think critically by analyzing evidence and predict the outcome. For example, one research shows that watching and reading such content offers exciting mental stimulation and sharpen problem solving skills.
However, excessive exposure to violent content may negatively affect some viewers, particularly children so parents should watch their children's activity on a daily basis if one is too exposed with these kind of content
In conclusion, crime fiction is popular mainly because it provides suspense, excitement and role play as a detective. Although I consider crime novels and TV dramas to be an interesting form of entertainment, I believe they should be consumed in moderation, especially when talking about children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and expressing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the accessibility of streaming platforms and the mental stimulation provided by the genre. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that '45% of people watch thriller shows' lacks context and feels like a generic assertion rather than a well-supported argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations or specific examples to illustrate your points, rather than relying on broad generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for popularity to the potential drawbacks. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'Second reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as in the final paragraph where 'these kind of content' is grammatically awkward and lacks a clear antecedent. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the flow is generally easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'suspense', 'criminal investigation', and 'mental stimulation'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'the craze of suspense novels... are getting famous' (should be 'the popularity of... is growing') and 'excess to streaming platform' (should be 'access to streaming platforms'). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that word forms (nouns vs. adjectives) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('novels... contains', 'these kind of content') and article usage ('the police force work'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly clunky. You have attempted complex structures, but they are not always error-free. To move up, focus on proofreading for basic agreement errors and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed with greater precision.
