Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, demands of crime drama and novels are increasing in various countries. There are many reasons behind this popularity. In this essay, I will give some of the reasons before giving my opinion.
In this contemporary society, people are more interesting to watch those dramas whose content are based on crime. The foremost reason of their interest is the suspense and curiosity that was created by the writer to attract many viewers. For instance, mostly criminal drama contain two main lead one is the hero who is doing all the good deeds whereas, the other one is a vilian who is responsible to create all the filthy things in the story. Moreover, all the conspiracy that would be created by the bad person grasps the attention of the audience.
Furthermore, audience also like the strategies of crime in these type of drama or shows that would be more fascinating for many people. In contrast, to other fairytale dramas that would be monotonous at certain point. However, by watching these criminal content many people get inspired and learn new ways of crime. For instance, by watching CID and crime petrol that was the most popular criminal shows of few year ago many people adopt many idea of criminal activities such as kidnapping children, snatching phones etc.
As far as my opinion is concerned, criminal shows should be banned because they have a very negative impact on the society. Mostly people follow and catch all the negative aspect of drama very easily and quickly. Besides, graph of street criminal cases increasing day by day in our society and undoubtedly, the preliminary reason behind this is the criminal shows that are telecasting on television.
To wrap up, Government plays a fundamental role in this matter by imposing penalty on the channels that telecast these types of fictions. Social media has become part and parcel of modern life and people get influence from it. In order to prevent our society from criminal activities social media should avoid promoting these contents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the student's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the appeal of suspense and the potential negative influence on society. However, the development is somewhat limited. The argument that crime shows should be banned is a strong position, but it lacks nuance or counter-argument, which is expected at higher bands. The explanation of why people learn criminal activities from TV is a bit simplistic. To improve, the student should provide more detailed examples or explore the psychological reasons behind the popularity of these genres more deeply.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression from the reasons for popularity to the personal opinion and finally a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'To wrap up', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, although some sentences are slightly disjointed due to grammatical issues. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task, and the overall structure helps the reader follow the argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'filthy things' to describe criminal acts and 'graph of street criminal cases increasing'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'conspiracy', 'suspense', and 'criminal activities', the range is somewhat limited. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'interesting' instead of 'interested' and 'telecasting' used as an intransitive verb. Expanding the range of academic vocabulary and improving collocation accuracy would help reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('mostly criminal drama contain', 'content are based') and tense inconsistencies ('that was created', 'that would be'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in article usage and sentence construction. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
