Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is limited and under-developed. The ideas regarding why crime fiction is popular (profit-driven motives) and your opinion (educational value) are present but lack sufficient depth or specific examples. The response is also under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the argument. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples, ensuring the response meets the length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'in conclusion', the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or unclear. Referencing is sometimes confusing, such as the vague use of 'it' and 'this' without clear antecedents. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence clearly connects to the previous one will help create a more coherent and readable essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'good', 'make', and 'crime'. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'extisted' (excited), 'makerv m ake' (makers make), and 'doii'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'sensationalism', 'fictionalized accounts', 'societal awareness') and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations and spelled accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('society is facing', 'show makers thinks'), article usage ('in World'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain run-on structures that lack proper punctuation. While there is an attempt at complex sentences, they are often faulty, which can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for common slips will also help reduce the frequency of errors that currently impede the clarity of your writing.
