Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, a trend of crime fiction has been growing rapidly. In many countries, crime books and web series gained more population over the time. Although, it gives adrenaline rush to individuals, I believe it is a more negative trend.
On the one hand, there are many advantages to read crime novels. Awareness and security can be consider as the main reasons. People may know different types of crime and these may allow them to take precautionary steps in unexpected dangerous situation. For example, a robbery drama can make people to improve their security, and awareness in high populated places.
Apart from this, many youngsters like to read crime fictional stories for entertainment. Youngsters like to read every detail of fiction, and it may improve their imagination, creativity and adrenaline rush and to maintain their rush they would prefer more crime based stories.
On the other hand, many people do not understand the purpose of fictional crime novel and tv drams, and eventually their continuous habit makes their mind to adopt the crime as a normal act. There are possibilities they may learn crime procedures, possible outcomes of crime and then execute their plan. According to recent survey of journalists, many criminals learn their procedure of crime through tv series, technology or novels. Hence, detailed crime acts put society in more vulnerable situation to perform crime.
To conclude, although fictional crime stories improve awareness and prevention among the society, the consequences of learning crime easily has more negative effect. This trend may put the society in more danger.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the writer mentions 'awareness' and 'entertainment' as reasons for popularity, these points are not fully explored. The opinion is clear, but the arguments regarding the negative impact of crime fiction are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, concrete examples beyond a vague reference to a 'recent survey'. To reach a higher band, the writer should provide more depth and specific illustrations to support their claims, ensuring that the arguments are fully extended rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Apart from this', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the transition 'Apart from this' to introduce a new point about entertainment. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, and the flow between ideas could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'precautionary steps' and 'vulnerable situation'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'gained more population' (instead of 'gained more popularity') and 'make their mind to adopt' (instead of 'influence their minds to perceive'). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a trend of crime fiction', 'in high populated places'), verb forms ('advantages to read'), and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that hinder the flow. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but the frequency of errors prevents the writing from being considered consistently accurate. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical slips would improve the score.
