Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and your personal opinion. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of your arguments. While you provide relevant points such as the 'thrill' and 'puzzle-solving' aspects, the development is somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples and provide more detailed explanations for your opinions. The failure to meet the minimum word count is a significant constraint on your ability to fully develop your ideas as required by the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Another Reason' and 'In a nutshell' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. Some sentences are repetitive, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'nice', 'good', and 'things' frequently. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'Solveing', 'instnce', 'actull', 'catogorised', 'peopel', 'catuious', and 'advantge', which distract the reader. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and more precise collocations related to the topic of crime and media.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. For example, 'most of world enjoys' lacks an article, and 'it involves Solveing puzzle' has an incorrect verb form. There are also issues with comma usage and sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and spelling prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic mechanical errors.
