Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, watching TV crime dramas and crime books are increasingly popular in some nations. The reasons behind the popularity of this phenomenon are several. However, I believe, crime books and crime dramas are detrimental for every human's mental health.
One main reason for the popularity of crime books and the crime dramas is availability worldwide. People often find easily those books and dramas on the Tv as well as in the book shops. Every movie, song and show includes a crime scene in order to increase the suspense which makes people to watch that particular scene carefully. As a result, people find those scenes very interesting and they like the books and TV shows which mainly includes the crime scenes.
People's interest also plays a vital role in making crime books and TV shows popular. They not only read those books very carefully as they like story but people also spend hours in watching crime shows on the TV as they got chills. people put more intention on things which are related to crime scenes because they find it interesting and they keep watching one after another. So, crime books and TV crime dramas have gained popularity over the time.
I believe, by reading or watching crime activities people might not only encouraged to do the same but they may also get frightened. Many crime scenes may appealing to young ones as they might think that by doing those they can become famous in the world and other people may fear them. Therefore, crime books and crime dramas might put adverse impact on a person's mind.
To sum up, being available for everyone and liked by many people are being the reasons of making crime books and TV crime dramas famous in the contemporary era, and in my opinion, this trend directly affects the thinking of a person.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation regarding 'availability' is repetitive, and the argument about the negative impact on mental health lacks specific examples or deeper analysis. While your position is clear throughout, the supporting points are somewhat generic and could benefit from more detailed exploration to reach a higher band. The ideas are relevant, but the overall depth of the argument is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'As a result', and 'To sum up', to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences feels a bit disjointed, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between 'availability' and 'suspense' could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the management of cohesion could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'suspense', 'crime scenes', and 'adverse impact'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward word choice or phrasing, such as 'watching TV crime dramas and crime books' (books are read, not watched) and 'they got chills' (which is informal). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('crime books and TV shows... includes'), incorrect verb forms ('people might not only encouraged'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors occasionally distracts the reader. To move to a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of passive voice and modal verbs to improve accuracy in your complex structures.
