Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why crime fiction is popular and the writer's opinion. However, the development is limited. The reasons provided—such as 'spreading awareness' and 'real experiences'—are repetitive and lack specific, concrete examples. The argument that crime dramas help people avoid online scams is a relevant point, but it is not fully explored or supported with a clear example. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the response is somewhat superficial, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your ideas by explaining the 'why' and 'how' more thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'Consequently', these are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. For instance, the transition 'On the other hand' does not effectively contrast with the previous paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'good', 'help', and 'problems'. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'perspective' and 'cognitive', but there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'mass proportion of the society' and 'increasingly uprise'. Some phrases are slightly unnatural, which occasionally makes the meaning less clear. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('These are enlighten', 'It have been showing'), article usage, and awkward sentence construction. For example, 'everywhere in the surrounding some crimes and murders are seen' is grammatically disjointed. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading your work to catch minor slips in tense and word order.
