Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's fast paced world, an increasing number of individuals prefer to watch crime related movies and shows, prompting widespread debate regarding its impact on individuals and society. This essay will discuss reasons of this predominant trend before presenting my own opinion in upcoming paragraphs.

It is often argue that crime fiction becoming popular nowadays among youngsters and adults. One of the major reason is elevated rate of crime scenes in cities such as smuggling, murder and domestic violence. However, people often surrounded by a crime- filled environment may develop curiosity about crime related activities. Therefore, they prefer TV crime dramas or books. Moreover, suspenseful and mystery behaviour tends towards criminal activities they want to know what happen and who did it? Some of the people just watching for entertainment and excitement purpose to learn about investigation, police work and criminal psychology.

I think crime fiction and novels are one of the most versatile genres because it much more than who committed the crime? People can learn new technology and ways used by criminal and protect themselves and family in future if it happen. Moreover, crime stories can expose corruption, inequality and failure in institutions. I will create awareness among people what is happening in the country.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with the statement that crime novels and TV dramas become popular nowadays which have both positive and negative impacts. I believe limited access of watching crime stories can be proven beneficial for society and individual as they get more aware about mis happenings in the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that people living in crime-filled environments develop curiosity about crime is a bold claim that lacks sufficient logical support or real-world examples. The opinion section is clearer, but the explanation of how these shows expose corruption is brief. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples or deeper analysis of the psychological or social factors involved. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments need more depth to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing crime rates to 'suspenseful and mystery behaviour' lacks a smooth connection. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'if it happen', where the antecedent is ambiguous. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'versatile', 'corruption', and 'criminal psychology'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'elevated rate of crime scenes' (instead of 'crime rates') and 'entertainment and excitement purpose' (instead of 'for the purpose of entertainment'). There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'mis happenings'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and more natural phrasing will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('It is often argue', 'crime fiction becoming popular'), missing articles, and tense inconsistencies ('what happen', 'if it happen'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction that impede the flow. While you attempt complex structures, they are often marred by these persistent errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent throughout the essay.
