Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many parts of the world, people have tendency to watch TV dramas , series and films which promote crimes. These shows are gaining more popularity because its gives suspence and thrill to everyone. According to me it is wastage of our precious time and it also gives negative vibes to people particularly youth and adults.

To commence with, people love to watch and read books which has crimes because people want to know what would be the result of this crime, they want to know the situation and timing of crime ,who commited crime so people are attracted by this movies and series. Nowadays people think that people who are engaged with crime are hero or superstar and they give a action star vibe this is also one reason that why people like to watch movies which are related to crime.

Furthermore, people are interested to watch this kind of dramas because other friend and relatives encourage them to watch it , some shows present their advertisement which attract to people watch series based on crime.

However, I personally believe that this crime movies and books are not good for people because its create more chaos in society , it influence people to commit more crime by watching this. This movies gives more tricks and techiques to criminals how to do crime and what could be solution or how they will securely commit crime.

In conclusion, people have interest to watch crime movies because of peer pressure and ongoing trend which affect negatively to society and people's mindset and criminals get more knowledge about how to create more crime in community by watching this programmes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that these shows provide 'tricks and techniques' to criminals is a significant over-generalization and lacks logical support or nuance. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments are repetitive and rely on simplistic assertions rather than well-developed reasoning. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples or deeper analysis of why audiences are drawn to the psychological aspects of these narratives.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'people' to start sentences or the basic transition 'To commence with'. Referencing is sometimes unclear; for example, the pronoun 'it' in 'it gives suspence' lacks a clear antecedent. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed, making the flow feel somewhat stilted. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to specific nouns would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'people' throughout the essay. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'promote crimes' (instead of 'depict' or 'portray') and 'give a action star vibe'. Some spelling errors, such as 'suspence' (suspense) and 'techiques' (techniques), are present. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to media and sociology, and ensure you are using words in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('its gives', 'this movies gives'), missing articles ('the' before 'crime'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that plural/singular forms are used consistently throughout your sentences.
