Student answer (Band 6.0)

The growing number of crime programs on TV and crime novels have been becoming increasingly popular among myriads of nations. This change can be several reasons. Howvere, I believe that this trend has both benefits and demerits for indivisuals and society as a whole.

One major reason is excitement and suspense about this programs. This is because when television broadcast these programs, it often comes with mysitries and suspense, which makes people excited about what will happen next. As many criminal webseries are proving clues in every episode and making curious what will going to be happen next. As a result, these programs are quite popular among society.

Another significant reason is entertainment. Many people have a hectic schedule and after completing these work, they often look for some entertaining and they do not have to put any efforts to make these programs. As a consequence, after watching or reading about crime, they feel more relaxed and joyful.

In my own opinion, this trend has both advantages and disadvantages on individuals. One main advantage is improve analytical thinking. Many people read these book and try to inter connect the clues and make prediction. This can encourage longical and critical thinking. Nevertheless, if they consume more crime related content, it can enhance thier curiosity about criminal activity and they may start doing crime in socity.

To sum up, this trend has linked with excitement and entertainment among citizens. Although this can encourage to people to use logical thinking, the chances of more criminal activities in society cannot be ignored. I believe that people should strike a balance and make mindful decisions about whay they are reading and watching.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that crime shows might lead people to commit crimes is a significant claim that lacks sufficient supporting evidence or logical depth. While the position is clear, the explanation of the 'benefits and demerits' could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response is relevant throughout, but the analysis of why these genres are popular remains somewhat repetitive, focusing primarily on 'excitement' and 'entertainment' without exploring deeper psychological or societal factors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One major reason', 'Another significant reason', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is occasionally mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing or grammatical errors (e.g., 'This change can be several reasons'). Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the benefits and the potential negative impact of crime content is somewhat abrupt, lacking a more sophisticated linking structure to connect the two opposing ideas effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express basic ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'analytical thinking', 'logical', and 'critical thinking'. However, there are several spelling errors ('Howvere', 'indivisuals', 'socity', 'thier', 'whay') and some awkward collocations ('myriads of nations', 'make these programs'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The repetition of basic words like 'programs' and 'crime' also limits the lexical variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb tense and agreement, such as 'have been becoming increasingly popular', 'television broadcast these programs' (should be 'broadcasts'), and 'making curious what will going to be happen next'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels clunky or ungrammatical. While the meaning is rarely obscured, the high frequency of minor errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to subject-verb agreement and sentence structure is needed.
