Student answer (Band 6.0)

The popularity of novels and TV dramas contains criminal activities is increasing around the world. Advertisements could be the main reason of developing interest that can lead to both positive and negative impact on the mental state.

Advertisements plays an important role in building public interest in watching crime series or reading crime novels. As the video clips or short advertisement of new launched or high rated series are shown in a way that it build suspense in the movies that intend people to watch them fully. For example, in India, a TV show called 'Crime Patrol' was advertised all over the place on internet that by the time it launched, youngsters had already built interest in their stories. Moreover, crime fiction books create suspense in mind that helps them to guess the next moment. which can be the cause of building interest in the crime books.

However A coin has two sides. on one side it can create awareness among youngsters regarding the crimes occuring around the world. for instance, a recently launched Webseries called 'Delhi crime'. It brings the crime in people awareness that happened with a family in Delhi and after the good publicity of this series, people get more aware of their surroundings. However, on the other hand side, watching a lot of crime episodes or reading novels regarding crime can impact youngsters mental state. As the situations in the stories can be taken too serious by the students which can make them introverts and create fear from every little things.

In conclusion, although marketing and suspenseful environment has made crime books and online shows more common, in my opinion these can be controlled by watching them in limit and taking them as a lesson.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, focusing on marketing and the psychological appeal of suspense. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation of why these shows are popular relies heavily on 'advertisements,' which is a limited perspective. The personal opinion is present but could be more deeply explored; for instance, the discussion on the impact on youngsters is a good start but lacks a more nuanced reflection on the genre itself. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why'—perhaps discussing the human fascination with the darker side of life or the cathartic nature of crime fiction.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'However,' and 'For instance.' However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'However A coin has two sides.' The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the use of referencing could be more precise to improve the overall progression. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs to be smoother to ensure the reader follows your argument without effort.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, using terms like 'suspense,' 'publicity,' and 'awareness.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'contains criminal activities' instead of 'featuring criminal themes' and 'intend people to watch' instead of 'entice people to watch.' Some phrases are slightly unnatural, like 'advertised all over the place.' To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to media and psychology to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Advertisements plays'), missing articles ('in limit'), and punctuation errors (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase letters or incorrect sentence fragments like 'which can be the cause...'). While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries will significantly improve your accuracy.
