Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that social media causes youngsters to commit crimes is a significant over-generalisation and lacks nuanced support. The opinion section is clear but brief, focusing on the negative impact of these shows. To reach a higher band, the ideas need to be more thoroughly explored with more logical connections and less reliance on sweeping statements about criminal behavior.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'there are few another reasons' or 'to elaborate it'. The transition between ideas is occasionally abrupt, and the referencing is sometimes unclear. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of some transitions limit the flow of the argument. Better control over paragraph internal structure would improve the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'peragraphs', 'multiferious', 'tottaly', 'allure', 'morever', 'populartiy', 'indivaidual', 'becouse', 'sucessfull', 'heardwork', 'reasom'). While the meaning is usually clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. The student relies on basic phrasing and struggles with collocations, such as 'adopting short way' instead of 'taking shortcuts'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('in Majority of nation'), subject-verb agreement ('social media have'), and incorrect word forms ('it encourage the criminal content'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading and basic syntax is required.
