Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and providing an opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. Ideas such as the impact on children and the potential for criminals to learn from media are introduced but remain underdeveloped. The position is clear, but the lack of length prevents a more thorough exploration of the topic. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with more detailed examples and explanations to meet the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To wrapping up' and 'A part from this'. The logical progression between sentences is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between television ratings and safety equipment is abrupt. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not always used with sufficient flexibility or accuracy to achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'every types of cinemas' (instead of 'genres') and 'telecast criminals programs' (instead of 'crime programs'). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the use of 'infants' to describe children is slightly imprecise in this context. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'every types of cinemas', 'people mind', 'can be lead to become bad person', and 'people cannot neglected'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
