Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, the types of books and TV movies are becoming different in many countries. It is more popular to focus on crime novels and TV crime programs. In my opinion, It leaves a bad fiction on the society, and in the next paragraphs I will shed some light on this view.

There are many reasons of choosing the crime subject in the novels or TV shows, the first reason is the high income for the product companies which they have it from the sales. For illustrate, it is a success project for their work. Moreover most people prefer this kinds of books or TV crime dramas, because they find it interesting and full of action, for example the teenagers follow these TV dramas because it feels them exciting to what happened at the end.

From my perspective, the crime dramas and novels had a negative impact on our countries. The primary reason is some people imitate these stories and think that will make them heroes and find this way so easy to do. In other hand we should use this platforms for positive messages by focusing on benefits habits and ideas such as helping people and charities.

in conclusion, the crime novels and Tv crime dramas are becoming more popular in our countries recently for many reasons, and in my opinion it has a negative fiction in our lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for popularity and expressing a personal opinion. However, the development is limited by the short length (229 words), which falls below the 250-word requirement. The ideas, such as 'high income for product companies' and 'imitation by teenagers', are relevant but lack sufficient depth or specific examples to fully explore the topic. The position is clear, but the under-length nature of the essay prevents a more comprehensive discussion, leading to a score that reflects the partial development of the arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a basic logical progression from the reasons for popularity to your personal opinion. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'For illustrate' and 'In other hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas feels abrupt. While the overall structure is coherent enough to follow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the sentence starters limit the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'bad fiction' (likely meaning 'influence') and 'benefits habits' (likely meaning 'beneficial habits'). Phrases like 'product companies' and 'success project' are somewhat simplistic. While the meaning is generally clear, the limited vocabulary prevents a more nuanced discussion of the topic, and the errors in word choice are noticeable throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'because it feels them exciting to what happened' and 'the crime dramas and novels had a negative impact'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. The frequency of these errors, combined with the limited variety of structures, indicates a need for more practice in constructing complex, error-free sentences.
