Student answer (Band 6.5)
Television industry is growing at fast-pace thanks to technology development. Nowadays, in multiple nations, crime novels and TV crime shows are gaining noticeable amount of popularity with time. There are various reasons behind this hype for these novels and dramas. In this essay, I will cast a light on reasons behind this trend and discuss my opinion below.
To start with, it is undoubtedly true that technology such as social media platforms Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube plays a vital role in making these crime novels and TV crime dramas get viral. As these platforms represent the content with their unique advertising techniques by applying various filters and effect to draw attention of the public. In addition to this, people are fond of experiencing thrill, these topics deliver. They catch immediate interest by adding mystery in a story which convince the audience to delve deeper in it.
Furthermore, serial killer novels and dramas also make people aware of possible dangers. For example, TV shows like Saavdan India displays real crime incidents happened in various parts of India and in each episode they give advice to public how to prevent yourself becoming a victim of such crimes and how act promptly in those tense situations. So families prefer to watch these shows together to teach there children safety rules.
To sum up, in my opinion people like crime novels and dramas because of the interesting content represented by the makers and increasing availability of advertising sources. However, the good aspect of this is they work as source of awareness as well as entertainment at the same time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of social media and the educational value of crime dramas. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on why people enjoy 'thrill' is brief and could be expanded with more depth. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, merely restating the points rather than synthesising them. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more detailed examples or analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'In addition to this', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the vague use of 'they' in the second paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be more sophisticated to improve the overall flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'delve deeper' and 'tense situations'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor collocation errors, such as 'gaining noticeable amount of popularity' (should be 'a noticeable amount') and 'get viral' (should be 'go viral'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Expanding your repertoire of collocations and idiomatic expressions would significantly enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Television industry is growing' (missing article), 'filters and effect' (should be plural 'effects'), and 'teach there children' (should be 'their'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that interrupt the flow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without minor slips that distract the reader.
