Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the explanation of why these shows help with stress is quite brief, and the argument that they teach people 'how to survive a difficult situation' is vague and lacks concrete supporting evidence. The opinion provided is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or logical reasoning to fully develop your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To add to this' and 'Apart from that' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by grammatical errors and unclear referencing. For instance, the transition between discussing TV shows and the benefits of reading books is abrupt. The progression of ideas is not always smooth, and the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be more clearly established.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'multipal', 'precepection', 'strongth', 'degital', and 'imortant'. These errors occasionally make it difficult for the reader to grasp the intended meaning. While you attempt to use some topic-related vocabulary like 'crime novels' and 'TV dramas', the range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your range of synonyms to avoid repeating terms like 'things' and 'shows'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all of the follow this trend'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'mental strongth'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'why television program and books are important because it is good ways'). The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional errors in complex constructions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. Significant improvement in basic grammar and sentence construction is required to achieve a higher score.
