Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays many people tend to watch more crime story books and daily crime shows, usually these series are popular for climax, story line and characters. In my opinion, it will gain more popularity as people always expect new contents and real life stories.

To begin with reading crime novels gives a live experience of the situation, because the stories are written to build the interest until it is completed. For example, I completed a recent novel named as 'Crashed' published by Rogers Smith. The climax was unexpected and it gave me more interest in finishing the book. On the other hand people are dependent on smart phones, but traditional reading relax our mind.

Furthermore, TV crime dramas are gaining more popularity among all age groups. The shows easily available on social media platform. One of the primary reason is that most of the series are based on real life stories, so it develops interest as people become aware and alert of the things happening around the world. This series are low budget films, but still it gains a positive reviews from the people. For instance, Currently I am watching Gabriel Documentary, a real life story which teaches you that life is not same for all.

In conclusion, crime fiction and crime dramas have secure top position on every social media platforms. Still in many counties, people lost charm of love stories and comedies shows , people want to watch shows and read novels based on todays reality or any past historical stories.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why crime genres are popular and the writer's opinion. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While you mention 'climax' and 'real life stories', these points are not fully explored or supported with deep analysis. The opinion is stated in the introduction but lacks a strong, consistent thread throughout the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each reason is supported by a clear explanation of 'why' it appeals to the audience, rather than just stating that it does. The examples provided, such as the book 'Crashed', are relevant but could be better integrated to illustrate your points more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical or abrupt. For example, the transition between discussing crime novels and the mention of smartphones in the first body paragraph is disjointed. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as 'This series are low budget films', where the pronoun usage is grammatically inconsistent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'climax', 'series', and 'documentary'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward word choice or collocation, such as 'watch more crime story books' (you read books, not watch them) and 'have secure top position' (should be 'have secured'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This series are low budget films' should be 'These series are' or 'This series is') and missing articles (e.g., 'on social media platform' should be 'on social media platforms'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of basic grammatical rules to achieve a higher band score.
