Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument that crime shows help people avoid 'unrealist situations' is vague and lacks concrete explanation. While you provide a clear position, the supporting points are repetitive and could be better extended with specific examples or more logical depth. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea rather than listing several loosely connected points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'Plus' at the start of a sentence, which is too informal for an IELTS essay. Additionally, some sentences lack logical flow, such as the transition between discussing 'curiosity' and the 'viewers list'. While the overall progression is clear, the relationships between ideas could be strengthened by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'these fiction serious') is grammatically accurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary range is adequate for the task but shows significant limitations. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'serious' instead of 'series', 'prospectives' instead of 'perspectives', 'implusive', 'curosity', 'ehnace', and 'prevelegde'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'thriller' and 'criminal activities', the lack of precision and the high frequency of spelling mistakes prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on accurate spelling and learning collocations will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example, 'Crime novels and Tv crime serials has gained' (should be 'have gained') and 'these fiction serious has' (should be 'these fiction series have'). There are also errors in word forms and articles, such as 'the worlds harsh reality' and 'may not catch by police' (should be 'may not be caught'). These errors are frequent and occasionally impede the flow, though the meaning remains generally clear.
