Student answer (Band 6.0)
In multiple countries, TV crime dramas and Crime books are becoming famous and everybody enjoys watching thriller movies. The primary reason that these crime movies are widely watched is because thriller crime films create suspense and keep people engaged till the end. In my opinion, watching crime fiction is the best to sharp mind and judge the writer's extent of thinking.
One of the principal reasons of popularity of crime dramas and fiction novels is unpredictability. All thriller films start with a shocking incident of crime where nobody knows how it happened and then police investigates the case. The suspense that gets created while solving the case and till giving the verdict, engages the audience and lets them guess who's the murderer. Additionally, crime dramas are widely enjoyed by all age groups without any inappropriate scenes which could be seen with family members. For example, a group of friends recently watched a movie based on serial killer. After movie finished, it left everybody in shock after knowing the culprit and reason for killing. This gave them an opportunity to discuss the movie story line.
In my opinion, crime fiction films and books should be inspired by real-life incidents which can create awareness among people and teenagers to avoid any circumstances where they can commit a crime unknowingly. This will give everyone a picture of life that happens after a crime has been committed. For example, youngsters who watch several movies and read multiple books especially on non-fiction crime thriller, have better understanding of what could cause a problem and lead to a crime. The reason behind this is that they already have watched or read a similar kind of incident and they are aware of consequences.
In conclusion, although thriller crime books and shows are widely seen and enjoyed, most of them should be inspired by real-life incidents to create general awareness among all age group people in order to mitigate the number of incidents in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, particularly the focus on unpredictability and suspense. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the argument regarding 'real-life incidents' as a way to prevent crime is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting examples, such as the group of friends watching a movie, are a little anecdotal and could be more analytical to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but the depth of analysis could be improved to move beyond general observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for popularity to the writer's opinion. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'all age group people'. While the flow is generally smooth, the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to avoid a repetitive structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'unpredictability' and 'mitigate', which are used correctly. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'best to sharp mind' (should be 'best for sharpening the mind') and 'all age group people' (should be 'people of all age groups'). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'The primary reason... is because' (should be 'is that'), 'One of the principal reasons of popularity' (should be 'reasons for the popularity'), and 'After movie finished' (missing article 'the'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and while these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
