In many countries, the popularity of crime novels and television crime dramas is increasing day by day. However, I believe that these novels and TV dramas are popular due to psychological and social issues and these can be education as well as entertaining at the same time if watched responsibly.

The main reason why audience is getting involved in these crime thrillers is that these create sense of involvement in their mind. These series involve mysteries and suspense and human psychology tend to try solve mysteries and they try to do it even before the investigator. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and personal opinion. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. The conclusion is abrupt, and the third paragraph is incomplete, ending mid-sentence. While the position is clear, the lack of sufficient length and the unfinished nature of the argument prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure all points are fully expanded with concrete examples and that the essay meets the minimum word count requirement to allow for a comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Therefore', and 'On the other hand' are used to link sentences. However, the cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the abrupt ending of the third paragraph disrupts the flow of the text. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure suffers due to the incomplete nature of the final body paragraph. Improving the transition between ideas and ensuring all paragraphs are fully developed would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'cognitive skills', 'desensitize', and 'suspense'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'these can be education' (should be 'educational') and 'too much exposure of the bad things' (should be 'to'). The range is somewhat limited, and the vocabulary does not consistently demonstrate the precision required for higher bands. Expanding the range of synonyms and focusing on correct word forms would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'raised the concerns' (should be 'raised concerns'), 'human psychology tend' (should be 'tends'), and 'these crime series gives' (should be 'these crime series give'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete sentence at the end of the third paragraph is a significant error. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for sentence completion is essential.
