Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, many countries are encouraging crime novels and TV crime dramas due to their higher demand in public. This is because, such kind of TV shows have high-level suspense in them. I personally believe that violent content should not be promoted .
There are several reasons why crime novels and TV crime dramas are getting popular in many countries. Firstly, TV shows that include crime dramas in them, have high-level suspense. It attracts a huge number of public to watch. Moreover, viewers try to solve the mystery behind a theft or a murder and try to find the real culprit on their own. Secondly, such kind of dramas encourage people to join police forces. This is because, when a child watches such episodes, they try to copy a cop and show interest toward forces.
However, I personally believe that TV crime dramas should not be promoted to every age group. This is due to, such TV episodes indirectly influence youngsters to adopt that criminal profession and commit a crime. Additionally, those episodes show a pathway of how to do criminal activities such as theft and robbery. For instance, if an individual shows overinvolvement in crime dramas, they may consider this an easy task and may deviate from their education. Therefore, these violent dramas leave a bad influence on youngsters.
To conclude, although TV shows that include crime in them are popular in many countries, it indirectly leaves a negative impact on teenagers because it shows a clear pathways on how to commit a crime and fool police.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The argument that these shows encourage people to join the police force is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. Furthermore, the opinion section focuses heavily on the negative influence on youngsters, which is a valid point, but it could have been more nuanced by acknowledging the entertainment value or the cathartic nature of such media. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more detailed examples or logical expansion to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'such kind of' is used multiple times, which affects the flow. Additionally, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs feel slightly abrupt. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the overall structure would be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the internal logic of each paragraph is more tightly connected.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. The student relies on basic phrasing, such as 'high-level suspense' and 'bad influence', which are repeated. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'encouraging crime novels' (when 'popularizing' or 'the rise of' would be more accurate) and 'criminal profession'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but the lack of less common lexical items and the repetitive nature of the word choices limit the score. Expanding the range of synonyms and using more sophisticated collocations would significantly improve this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the real culprit', 'a theft') and prepositions ('interest toward forces'). There are also issues with sentence construction, such as 'This is due to, such TV episodes...', which is grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some unnecessary commas. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of complex sentence structures, ensuring that subordinate clauses are integrated smoothly without grammatical slips.
