Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, it has been noticed that the trendy now in several countries is that our novels story and television soaps and dramas mostly centered on crimes. In the following paragraph, I would state the reasons to this trend and highlight my opinion.

To commence with, one of the primary reasons why most of novel writers and movie producers centered their story on crime is that they want those people that are involving in bad acts to be aware of what would become of them in the future. For instance, a person engaging in murder that read a novel or a movie that a murderer was arrested and later sentence to life in imprisonment would want to prevent that from happening to him by amending his ways in order not experience the same repercussion.

In my opinion, I want the government to empower the movie industries and encourage more writer to focus more on this aspect in order to contribute to the rising of crime rate in the country.

In conclusion, I believe this trend should continue because sincethe people enjoy watching and reading stories and movie on what is happening in their country and other countries, it would enables them to be conversant with the repercussion of those that commit

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address the prompt, the arguments are underdeveloped and the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. The position is stated but lacks the depth required for a higher band. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed examples and ensure the essay is fully completed. The suggestion that crime dramas 'contribute to the rising of crime rate' appears to be a misunderstanding of the prompt or a logical error, as you likely meant 'contribute to the reduction of crime rates'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'In conclusion', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a fully developed argument makes the overall flow feel disjointed. Improving the transition between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, fully developed topic sentence would help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the trendy now' instead of 'the current trend' and 'television soaps and dramas mostly centered on crimes'. The phrase 'contribute to the rising of crime rate' is likely a misuse of vocabulary given the context of your argument. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations and grammatical forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a limited range of grammatical structures. There are frequent errors in sentence construction, such as 'one of the primary reasons why most of novel writers... centered their story' and 'it would enables them'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors interfere with the fluency of the writing. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralisation.
