Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, crime books and movies are becoming increasingly famous in some countries. This types of content attract the audience and keep them engage till the end, and I believe these could be negative thing because such content may provoke violent behaviour.
One of the main reasons why crime books and movies are so popular is that they can create suspense and curiosity. People are usually interested in mysteries and they want to discover who committed crime and how the case will be solved. For example, my family and I watch the the crime movies till the end without taking a break. As a result, this type of content can keep the audience highly engaged and encourage them to watch or read until the end.
This can be a negative development because it has a detrimental impact on viewers, particularly young generation. Crime novels and shows instigate bad behavior and in some cases, influence people to imitate criminal activities. For instance, a person in my community who regularly read crime books and watched crime dramas eventually committed murder about three years ago. Furthermore, young people who are exposed to such content on a regular basis may become less sensitive to violence and fail to understand its serious consequences. Therefore, excessive exposure to crime-related content may negatively influence some individuals and potentially contribute to higher crime rates in society.
In conclusion, although crime series and novels are gaining popularity across the globe nowadays, I believe it is negative development because such content triggers bad behavior and encourage criminal activities among audiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a reason for popularity (suspense/curiosity), the explanation is brief. The opinion section relies on a personal anecdote about a murder, which is a significant over-generalisation and lacks the nuance expected at higher bands. To improve, focus on broader societal impacts rather than isolated personal examples, and expand on the 'why' behind the popularity with more analytical depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the popularity of crime fiction and the negative impact could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to vary your cohesive devices and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more fluid rather than relying on simple sentence-by-sentence linking.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'detrimental impact', 'instigate', and 'excessive exposure' effectively. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'This types of content' (should be 'These types') and 'watch the the crime movies' (repetition). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensure that your word forms (singular/plural) are consistently accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'keep them engage' (should be 'engaged'), 'committed crime' (should be 'committed a crime'), and 'regularly read' (should be 'regularly reads' to match the subject). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater precision.
