Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development of ideas is limited. While you identify reasons for the popularity of crime shows (awareness and education), the explanation is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. The opinion section regarding the negative impact on families is introduced but remains underdeveloped, relying on generalisations rather than specific, well-supported arguments. Furthermore, the response falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task completion. To improve, ensure you provide more substantial examples and fully explore the implications of your arguments to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'To conclusion' is non-standard, and 'Moving towards opinion' is a bit informal. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the reasons for popularity and the specific examples is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and phrases more naturally to connect your sentences and paragraphs, ensuring that the logical flow between your main points is smoother and more coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'doing there crimes in a day light', 'more number of citizen', and 'watching this shows are crucial'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'prevalence', 'societal impact', or 'fictional narratives', and pay closer attention to pluralisation and article usage to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently make errors with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'this novels and dramas becoming famous'), article usage (e.g., 'in a day light'), and pluralisation (e.g., 'more number of citizen'). Additionally, there are issues with sentence construction, such as 'toxicity creates inside the family', which is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is high. To improve, focus on mastering basic grammatical rules, particularly verb tenses and noun-verb agreement, and proofread your work to catch these persistent slips before finalising your response.
