Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, crime novels and TV crime dramas are being encouraged. More and more people are interested in such kinds of dramas. This is because, it contains high-level suspense to solve. Therefore, viewers find it interested while they solve the cases on their own. I believe that these kinds of dramas should be restricted to a certain age groups rather than for everyone.

To begin with, a significant number of people like to watch TV crime dramas or read crime novels. They find it interesting because, it contains a hidden suspense which is to be solved in the end of the episode. Therefore, people do not want to skip the episode even for a minute. Moreover, they try to solve the case and find the real culprit. In addition, guessing the right culprit make people more engaged, hence demand more episodes from the makers. As a result, makers fulfil public demand and tend to make more of these crime episodes.

However, I believe that such kinds of genres have a negative impact on the people. Crime shows narrate complete guidance on how to commit a crime and not get caught. Therefore, youngsters may be easily get influenced and try to implement such crimes. This is because, young people get influenced more easily unlike older ones. In addition, student may get mentally disturbed due to more of their involvement in these dramas. As a result, they tend to behave abnormally and parents may take them to psychologist for their treatment.

In conclusion, although TV crime dramas have more number of viewers, it should be limited to the adult only rather than for every age groups. Therefore, students by not involving too much in these episodes, try to focus on their studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and your personal opinion. You clearly state your position that these shows should be restricted by age. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the explanation of why people enjoy these shows (solving cases/suspense) is repeated across the first and second paragraphs. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same concept. The conclusion is a bit brief and could better summarize the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'However' to link ideas. While these are effective, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by varying the structure of your cohesive links. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the popularity of the genre to the potential negative impacts and finally to your proposed solution.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'culprit', 'genres', and 'psychologist'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'crime shows narrate complete guidance' is unnatural; 'provide detailed instructions' would be more precise. Additionally, 'more number of viewers' should be 'a larger number of viewers'. You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but the overall range is somewhat limited, and there is occasional repetition of basic words like 'dramas' and 'people'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'youngsters may be easily get influenced' (should be 'may be easily influenced') and 'every age groups' (should be 'every age group'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'student may get mentally disturbed' (should be 'students may get...'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over basic grammatical rules.
