Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent times, It has been seen that more and more crime novels and TV crime shows are getting well-known. There are some reasons why people prefer to watch or read this kind of stuffs. I will elaborate them in this essay and put my point of view for this statement.
There are several reasons to watch crime shows and read books related to crime. Firstly, crime shows and novels are the one which have suspense in it's story. Most of the people like to watch them because they enjoy having the suspense till the end of the story. For instance, there is a TV show called CID, which is a crime petrol show where they used to keep suspense till the end, where they find the victims, people like to stick to the story. Secondly, the instances of crimes are counting more and more nowadays. For that reason, bunch of people used to watch shows or read this kind of novel to get familiar with the crimes that could be happen with them. For example, as they got to know about surge in gold robbery, they will take care of their gold jewelries when they go outside.
According to me, there are advantages of getting exposure of this kind of genre for shows or books. However, there are more chances to get mislead by watching them. It could be bad for the youth who watch crime movies, as they got to know about how the crimes done, at that age they always want to try something new and this leads them to perform crimes. This can start with small things like arguments at home but can lead to more harmful crimes if they start doing the thefts. As an example, small successful theft at home can encourage them to do the bigger one and more crimes in future.
In a nutshell, I believe that there are positive sides of watching TV shows and reading crime fiction if they are used for entertainment purpose. However, they should be watched in limitations so as to not get any harm or provocation to do one like that as it can be misleading for younger generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and expressing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the appeal of suspense and the desire for safety awareness. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the argument regarding the negative impact on youth is a bit repetitive and could have been supported with more nuanced reasoning. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of ideas is more detailed and less reliant on simple examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In a nutshell', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'According to me' to introduce an opinion, which is not standard academic phrasing. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the second paragraph, which creates minor ambiguity. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated and varied to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'provocation' and 'genre', but there are also instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'kind of stuffs' and 'crime petrol show'. Some collocations are unnatural, for example, 'instances of crimes are counting more and more'. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the errors in word choice prevent a higher score. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the crimes done'), subject-verb agreement ('instances of crimes are counting'), and punctuation (the unnecessary comma after 'In recent times'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'there are some reasons why people prefer to watch or read this kind of stuffs'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on accuracy in basic grammar would improve the score.
