In many countries, crime novels and TV crime shows have become increasingly popular. There are several reason for growing interest, including excitement of solving the crime problems and mysteries and desire to understand too criminal behavior. I will discuss in the upcoming paragraphs.
One of the main reason behind the crimes books and shows become more popular. They create suspense and keep audiences interested. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the suspenseful nature of the genre and the educational value regarding criminal psychology. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the example of 'CID' is slightly confusing, as the writer suggests viewers enjoy predicting the criminal, which contradicts the typical appeal of a 'whodunit' mystery. The conclusion provides a clear personal stance, but the overall development of arguments lacks depth and could benefit from more specific, nuanced examples to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'As result' (missing 'a') and 'In conclusion, crime novels and TV dramas are popular in mainly because...'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences occasionally feels disjointed due to grammatical errors that interrupt the reader's focus. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'psychology', 'motives', 'evidence', and 'justice system'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'the who attempt the crime' instead of 'the perpetrator' and 'keep to touch with' instead of 'stay engaged with'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the range and precision of the language, preventing a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the main reason', 'crimes drama create'), missing articles ('the justice system', 'the excitement'), and awkward sentence construction ('allows to people understand'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation indicate a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
