Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, People are watching more and more TV shows about crime and also reading books about it. I feel it is more interesting for people because it contains lots of suspense and actions.
Our young generation is often watching movies in their free time and also excited for those dramas which always related with reality and actions. In India, there are several Tv shows such as Criminal Justice that make friction episodes about real incident and crime about rape cases, murders, robbery etc. Furthermore, some novels also highlight all things in details about crimes such as how did that happen, how many people was involved and how that crime was solved. It is not only entertain people but also spread awareness about important things. People always like to know in details about how criminal get caught by agents or police officers and what kind of steps has taken by government afterwards.
I think it is really essential to know about real cases that happens everyday in our society. Otherwise, people will never get to know how to deal with these situations. For instance, consider those women who are harassed mentally and physically in our society. Eventually, they do suicide because of fear and feeling helpless. By watching and reading about crimes, it gives hope and strength to fight with it. However, not each crime relates with people's personal life but still it matters a lot.
In conclusion, most of the people like to watch for entertainment but it enhance the knowledge about self-defence and increase confidence level. Eventually, people are not get bored with these dramas and pay for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the appeal of suspense and the educational value of crime dramas. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the mention of 'Criminal Justice' provides a concrete example, the explanation of why people enjoy these shows could be more deeply explored beyond 'suspense and actions'. The personal opinion is clear, but the argument that crime fiction helps women fight harassment is a significant leap in logic that lacks sufficient supporting evidence or nuance. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with logical reasoning rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'Eventually' used twice in ways that do not quite fit the context (e.g., 'Eventually, they do suicide'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the link between 'these dramas' and 'important things' is a bit loose. Paragraphing is present, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'make friction episodes' (likely meaning 'fictional') and 'how criminal get caught' (missing article). The phrase 'do suicide' is non-standard; 'commit suicide' would be the correct collocation. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'harassed', 'awareness', and 'self-defence', the overall range remains limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'more and more' and 'things'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('how many people was involved', 'what kind of steps has taken'), article usage ('the young generation', 'the government'), and pluralisation ('most of the people like to watch'). Some sentences are grammatically fragmented or awkward, such as 'not each crime relates with people's personal life'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. More attention to basic grammar rules and proofreading for subject-verb agreement is necessary.
