Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's modern generation criminal dramas and crime novels are becoming more and more popular. This is mainly because such kind of books and shows makes the audience more curious and attracted to the suspense. In my opinion, people should watch similar entertainment channels only to a certain extend as they many have many disadvantages too.
To begin with, in many countries as the numbers of individuals who read and see offensive things are increasing on a daily basics this is due to the suspense being created by the makers. This is mainly because they built a curiosity of what will happen next and keep them indulged in the story. As the series continuous new characters are introduced and story starts unfolding, leaving the viewers shocked and excited at the same time. For example, if a movie shows the hero is killed at the start but does not reveal the face to the killer public will keep watching the movie further to know who murdered the hero. As a result, individuals are hooked and curious to know who is the real suspect.
In my opinion, crime fictions can have their own disadvantages. In particular, it encourages youth to follow a wrong path inspired by fiction and can ruin their career. This is because criminal entertainment channels displays murder, theft, kidnapping etc which may influence young minds easily. For instance, if a specific books mentions in detail how a robbery was done and what all criteria were considered while carrying out the whole process it displays the whole view of how others can do it too. As a result, when youngsters are desperate and cannot seek help they many do same activity in the future.
To conclude, as the watching hours of crime novels and dramas are skyrocketing its majorly due to the suspense which creates curiosity and keeps individuals hooked. Whereas, I believe these kind of shows may portrait many wrong ideas leading to destroy children's future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's opinion. The ideas are relevant, focusing on suspense as a driver for popularity and the potential negative influence on youth as a critique. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the arguments could be more nuanced. For instance, the explanation of why people enjoy suspense is a bit simplistic. While the position is clear, the supporting examples, such as the hypothetical robbery scenario, are slightly underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more sophisticated reasoning rather than just stating the obvious.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'as the numbers of individuals who read and see offensive things are increasing on a daily basics'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'suspense', 'unfolding', and 'suspect'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'daily basics' (should be 'daily basis'), 'many have many' (repetition), and 'portrait' (should be 'portray'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on common terms. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing to demonstrate a more flexible control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('such kind of books... makes', 'story starts unfolding'), incorrect verb forms ('they many have', 'if a specific books mentions'), and punctuation errors. These errors do not typically impede communication, but they are noticeable. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pluralization, verb tenses, and modal verb usage, while also attempting more varied complex sentence structures.
