Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people love to watch web series, movies and dramas on tv. Teenagers like to watch or read books which are thriller based and crime suspected storyline. I believe that there is no harm in watching this kind of movies but proper education should be given to the citizens.

Firstly, we all know in this modern world everyone loves to watch movies or read books but they prefer the storyline which is a bit kind of scarry, thriller and crime. Many authors have seen an increasing sale in their crime novels rather than romantic or funny books. By reading this kind of stories the audience thinks that what might happen next or who killed the lady. They are fond of suspense movies or drama.

The reason they are famous is because there is mystery, excitement, danger, suspense and unexpected twist. Watching or reading this kind of book will allow people to temporarily forget their everyday problems and will be allow them to enjoy.

This even have some disadvantages like young children will take the wrong message from the movie or they might learn from this books. In addition to that it is more important for the teachers and parents to teach their kids not to learn or experiment from the books. Some might feel scary or fear by watching crime fiction dramas and can lead to psychological problem.

To conclude, crime fiction and TV crime dramas are exciting to watch for the enjoyment or to forget about the stress that people have in their lives. It is also beneficial for the cast of the show and authors of the books but we should not learn and apply it to our daily life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation for why these genres are popular relies on a list of adjectives like 'mystery, excitement, danger' without deeper analysis of the psychological appeal. Similarly, the opinion section is brief and lacks specific examples or a more nuanced discussion on the societal impact. While the position is clear, the ideas are not fully extended, which limits the depth of the response. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition 'In addition to that' is used, but the overall flow between sentences could be smoother. Some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'they might learn from this books', where the pronoun reference is a bit ambiguous. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on general terms like 'scarry', 'funny', and 'good' or 'bad' concepts. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'crime suspected storyline' instead of 'crime-themed' or 'crime-focused'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'be allow them' instead of 'allow them'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to literature and media analysis, such as 'gripping narratives', 'escapism', or 'psychological thrillers'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the reader. Examples include 'This even have some disadvantages' (subject-verb agreement), 'learn or experiment from the books' (preposition usage), and 'can lead to psychological problem' (missing article). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Reviewing basic grammar rules regarding pluralization and verb forms would be highly beneficial for your writing.
