Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the student's opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention 'escapism' and 'solving puzzles,' these points are not fully extended with detailed reasoning or nuanced examples. The mention of 'crime petrol' and 'the family man' is relevant, but the explanation of how these shows specifically contribute to awareness is slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is supported by a clear, logical explanation that directly links back to the prompt's core questions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'secondly,' but the internal flow within paragraphs is occasionally choppy. For example, the transition between discussing 'escapism' and 'crime petrol' is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'it is helps to spread awareness' in the conclusion, which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'Tv abomination dramas' (likely a typo for 'crime'), 'Mandane life' (mundane), and 'slipper sells' (likely 'sleeper cells'). These errors occasionally distract the reader. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'law enforcement agencies' and 'culprit,' the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that words are used in their correct context to convey your meaning accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it offer,' 'escapism play,' 'it is helps'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms. For instance, 'it can be experience by viewers to intense emotions' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
