Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why crime fiction is popular and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided—'awareness' and 'reducing boredom'—are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The examples given, such as the 'survey conducted by judicial court' and the 'article presented by google', are vague and lack specific detail, which prevents the argument from being fully convincing. While the position is clear, the supporting evidence is underdeveloped, keeping the response at a Band 5 level for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'To instance', 'as compare to other'). There is some repetition of phrases, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally disjointed. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the transitions limit the flow of the essay. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making the connection between ideas feel forced at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Words like 'crime', 'movies', and 'individuals' are used frequently throughout the text. There are attempts to use more academic language, but these are often used incorrectly or in unnatural collocations, such as 'crime information' or 'more reduces the stress'. The range is sufficient to convey the basic message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, but the lack of variety in word choice is a significant constraint.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. When the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('they watches', 'individuals are more living happy life') and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and the limited variety of structures prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The errors are noticeable and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
