Student answer (Band 6.5)
The popularity of crime novels and TV crime dramas is increasing rapidly in many nations. While there are various causes behind this phenomenon such as spreading awareness and presenting realistic stories, I believe that these books and shows are increasing social problems and crime rates.
There are several reasons why this is happening. The major one is awaring people about criminal activities in the society. As these channels present the reality of world, individuals can save themselves from become victim of these crimes by paying more attention to their surrondings. Moreover, residents gain the information about exitings laws against those crimes which make them feel more secure. For example, crime petrol, a television show, provides information about current ways of committing crimes so that innocent people do not get trapped by these culprits. Furthermore, modern society is more interested in realistic stories rather than daily soaps and family dramas. Therefore, in order to make more profits, these shows are telecasted frequently.
On the other hand, I believe that although crime novels and televsion shows have some positive impacts on society, the results could be counterproductive in many ways. Firstly, some culprits take advantage of this published information to get more ideas of commiting new crimes. They may find loopholes from these stories and indulge themselves in henious crimes. Secondly, the negative content of these stories spread fear among people and they start doubting every body around them. For instance, youngsters feel unsafe in many areas which reduce their confidence considerably. Hence, crime fiction and TV crime dramas may disturb the peaceful environment of the communities.
In conclusion, educational and entertainment factos lead to increasing demand of crime shows and books. However, they may have adverse impact on the mind of viewers if not presented responsibly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. You have a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the educational value versus the potential for copycat crimes. However, some points could be more fully developed. For instance, the argument about 'spreading awareness' is a good start, but could be supported with more nuanced analysis of why audiences specifically find this entertaining. You have successfully covered all requirements of the task, and your position is consistently maintained, which aligns well with the Band 7 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons for popularity from your personal critique. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'phenomenon', 'counterproductive', and 'heinous'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'awaring people' (should be 'raising awareness') and 'exitings laws' (existing laws). There are also minor spelling errors like 'surrondings' and 'factos'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and checking for common spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'save themselves from become victim' (becoming victims) and 'these shows are telecasted' (are broadcast). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'in the society' (in society). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your main points. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would help improve your score.
