Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'problem solving' and 'satisfying narratives,' these points are not fully explored with specific, concrete examples. The explanation of why crime dramas are popular is a bit repetitive, focusing mostly on the 'thrill' without delving into deeper psychological or societal reasons. To improve, ensure that each paragraph provides a clear, distinct reason supported by a more detailed, illustrative example. Your position is clear, but the supporting arguments need more depth to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'In addition to it,' and 'After following,' but these are sometimes used mechanically or with slight grammatical awkwardness. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For instance, the link between the 'hero winning' and 'motivating them in life' is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'these views,' 'this example') is precise will enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'meticulous,' 'authenticated,' and 'interpersonal skills.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'massive surge in worldwide popularity' (a bit redundant) and 'satisfying felling' (should be 'feeling'). Some phrases are slightly unnatural, such as 'analyzation' (analysis is preferred) and 'bend towards' (prefer 'gravitate towards'). To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and avoid over-using simple descriptors. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to media and psychology would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. For example, 'This can be apparently seen by human psychology' is awkward, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'these shows can are violent' and 'these entertainment sources helps.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and incorrect comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence boundary errors.
