Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 149 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely restricted. While the essay touches upon the popularity of crime dramas and mentions specific examples like 'CID' and 'Money Heist', the discussion remains superficial. The prompt asks for reasons for their popularity and a personal opinion, but these are not fully explored or supported. The essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, indicating an incomplete response. To improve, you must expand your arguments with detailed explanations and examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive analysis of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure and logical progression. Paragraphing is present but inconsistent, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and often mechanical. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. There is no clear concluding paragraph, and the final sentence is incomplete, which disrupts the flow of ideas. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more effectively and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and a logical conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'contemparory', 'interduced', 'inreased', 'intrest', 'incouraged', 'intelegenc', 'varity', 'opnion', 'somthig', and 'quinch'. These errors occasionally make the text difficult to read. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'suspense' and 'crime drama', the range is insufficient to express complex ideas. You should focus on improving your spelling and expanding your vocabulary by learning synonyms and collocations related to media and entertainment to convey your points with greater precision and variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'its has inreased'), article usage, and sentence structure. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization. Additionally, practice using a mix of simple and complex sentences to demonstrate a better command of English grammar.
