Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modern society, crime books and TV thrillers have gained popularity. There are several reasons for this situation, such as techniques to understand a criminal mindset, learning safety measures, and so on. I believe that, although it contains useful information sometimes, it is detrimental to society as it shows methods of committing crimes.
One compelling reason for the growing popularity of crime novels and crime dramas is the techniques to understand. These kinds of dramas and books include a lot of suspense and thrill. Because of this, it creates interest in the public and excitement and naturally their minds tend to watch for further stories or read. Moreover, while watching or reading, spectators and readers can get an idea of the intention and mindset behind the criminal act. For example, there is a popular drama on television named CID, which depicts the reasons behind criminal activity which also help to gain psychology knowledge.
In my opinion, it is good that by watching these types of dramas and reading novels, a person may have an idea to understand behaviour; however, sometimes it can create new criminals in society. Because after watching crime story person can relate to their situation sometimes, which can lead them to being criminal. For instance, a person who is unemployed watching the Money Heist web series which is based on unemployed people who committed robbery to remove themselves from poverty, and then become the richest people.
In conclusion, although crime novels and tv crime become famous for learning criminal techniques and understand criminal mindsets. I believe that it can be harmful to our societies, as it can lead to becoming one more criminal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'suspense' and 'psychology knowledge' as reasons for popularity, these points could be expanded with more depth. Your opinion is clear, but the argument regarding the influence of shows like 'Money Heist' is a bit simplistic and could benefit from a more nuanced discussion on the distinction between entertainment and real-world criminal behavior. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more thorough explanation of the 'why' behind your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. For example, the transition between the popularity of crime dramas and the potential negative impact on society could be smoother. Ensure that you use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to improve the overall flow and logical progression of your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'detrimental', 'suspense', and 'spectators'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'techniques to understand' (which is incomplete) and 'lead them to being criminal'. Some vocabulary is repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'criminal' and 'dramas'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a broader range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with article usage ('the Money Heist web series'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Because after watching crime story person can relate...'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed, which affects the overall fluency. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, such as pluralization and the correct use of prepositions, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures with greater precision.
