Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today`s fast-paced world, individuals hold diverse opinion on a wide range of topics. Regarding the issue of increasing of crime novels and Tv dramas, I will analyze the primary causes before forming a well-rounded opinion.

To begin with , a major factor fueling this trend is people`s interest in real-life problem solving stories. In other words, when crime novels and crime dramas are showed with action and daily life threats, viewers prefer to watch because they relate these dramas with their own lives. For example, crime dramas showed with moral order and justice which inclines the interest in public to watch such shows.

In my viewpoint, the primary advantages of crime fiction and tv crime dramas is that it create the trust on law enforcement and police procedures. This perspective is based on the belief that when any crime is conducted according to law and by following proper legal steps, it makes viewers comfortable and makes their trust more stronger which encourages our safety department and law and regulations. Moreover, it also makes alert about any crime before it happen with them and they can know what excatly they should do in emergency situation, which further strengthens the case for this position.

In conclusion, the popularity of crime related novels and tv dramas is increasing among people. By understanding the underlying primary causes, I think that this is a positive trend because of its problem-solving technics, build the trust on law enforcement. Hence, the sooner the people understand the value of crime books and shows, the better it is.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that crime dramas create trust in law enforcement is an interesting point, but it is not fully supported with concrete examples or nuanced reasoning. The explanation of why people enjoy these shows is also a bit repetitive, focusing on 'problem-solving' without exploring the psychological appeal of suspense or escapism. To improve, ensure that each main idea is supported by a specific, well-explained example rather than general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with', 'In other words', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'which further strengthens the case for this position' at the end of a paragraph that lacks a strong argumentative structure. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fast-paced', 'law enforcement', and 'emergency situation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'increasing of crime novels' (should be 'the increase in'), 'makes their trust more stronger' (redundant comparative), and 'problem-solving technics' (should be 'techniques'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('it create the trust', 'it makes alert') and awkward phrasing ('crime dramas showed with action'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor errors with spacing around commas and the use of backticks instead of standard apostrophes. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb agreement and the correct use of passive versus active voice.
