Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'mystery' and 'entertainment' as reasons, these points are not fully explored. Similarly, your opinion on the positive impact of these shows is stated but lacks depth. The example of 'Crime Patrol' is relevant, but the claim that criminal activity decreased specifically due to a TV show is a significant over-generalization that weakens the argument. To reach a higher band, focus on providing more nuanced explanations and logical support for your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion.' However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'In this fast forwarding era' or 'in below paragraph.' The progression of ideas within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the movie example and the final sentence about criminal behavior is abrupt. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'very excited' (which should be 'exciting') and 'positive impact.' There are also some word-choice errors, such as 'fast forwarding era' instead of 'fast-paced era' and 'revel' instead of 'revealed.' While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range remains limited. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology related to media and social influence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'criminal behavior can be predict'), article usage (e.g., 'in many region'), and tense consistency. For instance, 'it become blockbuster' should be 'it became a blockbuster.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring correct verb forms would significantly improve your score.
