Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt but fails to provide a clear or logical argument. While the task asks for reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and a personal opinion, the ideas presented are fragmented and often incoherent. For example, the second paragraph mentions population growth and 'surfcasting ideas' as reasons for crime fiction, which does not logically connect to the genre's popularity. The opinion provided in the conclusion is vague and does not directly answer the prompt's requirement for a reasoned perspective. The ideas are largely underdeveloped and lack the necessary focus to meet the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there are paragraph breaks, the internal structure of each paragraph is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; instead, the text relies on repetitive or misused transitions like 'Whenever' and 'Hence'. The progression of ideas is not clear, and the reader struggles to follow the writer's train of thought. Referencing is often confusing, such as in the fourth paragraph where the connection between 'not helping to each other' and the popularity of TV shows is unclear. The overall arrangement of information is not coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The range of vocabulary is very limited and often used incorrectly, which significantly impedes communication. Many phrases are nonsensical, such as 'proper developing grasp area' or 'surfcasting ideas'. There is a lack of control over word choice and collocation, making it difficult to discern the intended meaning. The vocabulary is repetitive and lacks the precision required for an IELTS task. Basic errors in word formation and usage are frequent throughout the text, indicating a limited ability to express complex ideas or opinions effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that distort meaning. Sentence structures are often incomplete or run-on, such as 'Today, The crime is very increase many countries'. There is a lack of control over basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and sentence construction. Complex structures are attempted but are consistently faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also used incorrectly, with random capitalization and missing commas. The frequency of these errors is high, and they consistently interfere with the reader's ability to understand the content.
