Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, crime documentaries and dramas have gained mass popularity among the youngesters. More individuals are shifting their interest towards crime novels and series. This essay will not only discuss the reasons behind it but also my opinion opposing the crime fiction and dramas.
First and foremost, crime dramas have gained attention in past few years due to some reasons. Firstly, the dramas have amazing storyline with interesting visuals. To elaborate, they describe the course of events with suspense that the audience gets connected to it till the end. They find it very thrilling at the same time. Secondly, these series enlighten people about the crimes and illegal things happening around them. They understand how the crimes happen and the techniques by which one can protect themselves. For example, a crime show CID have various episodes with each having different storyline about many crimes. Hence, these dramas can be entertaining and quite knowledgeable at same time for someone to understand about illegal misconducts.
However, in my opinion, i believe that these novels and dramas can have adverse effects on young generation. To justify, they can get influenced from the dramas and start practicing it in real life. They can get involved into illegal practices and misconducts following those thrill scenes. For example, they can break laws by overspeeding or smoking which can have detrimental affects on their health and life. Moreoer, the violence in the scenes should be limited by the authorites and should be made avaliable to specific age group only. This will not only help chidren stay away from the violent practice but also will be better for their mental health. Therefore, these novels and dramas should be publicized in limit amount only.
To conclude, although the dramas have gained poplularity because of their storyline and thrilling actions yet the negative affects it have on the young generation cannot be neglected at any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the suspenseful nature of the storylines and the educational value regarding crime prevention. However, the development of the opinion is somewhat simplistic. The argument that crime dramas directly lead to illegal activities like smoking or overspeeding is a significant over-generalisation and lacks nuanced support. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. The essay covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis remains at a functional level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'To conclude' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For instance, the use of 'they' to refer to both the audience and the characters/dramas can create minor ambiguity. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the reasons for popularity to the potential negative impacts, which ensures the text remains coherent throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'detrimental', 'misconducts', and 'publicized', which show a reasonable range. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'publicized in limit amount' (should be 'limited amounts') and 'illegal things' (which is quite informal). Spelling errors like 'youngesters', 'Moreoer', 'avaliable', and 'chidren' occur, though they do not impede overall communication. To improve, the writer should focus on more precise collocations and proofreading for spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there is an attempt at complex sentences, such as 'This will not only help children stay away from the violent practice but also will be better for their mental health', there are frequent grammatical errors. These include subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the dramas have amazing storyline'), article misuse, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the negative affects it have'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main points. A greater focus on consistent verb tense and pluralisation would enhance the accuracy of the writing.
