Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The personal anecdote regarding a land dispute is somewhat tangential and lacks a clear connection to why crime dramas are popular. The arguments regarding 'crime knowledge' are underdeveloped and rely on generalizations. The response also includes significant repetition, as large sections of the text are restated almost verbatim in the second half of the essay. This lack of progression and the repetitive nature of the content prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. The structure is fragmented, with the same ideas repeated in different paragraphs. Paragraphing is used, but the content within the paragraphs is disjointed. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'In many of the countries' and 'Now a day'. The transition between the personal anecdote and the general discussion is abrupt and confusing. The overall arrangement of ideas is mechanical, and the repetition of entire paragraphs significantly hinders the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'crime's has first places', 'gang star', and 'spontise'. The student struggles to express complex ideas, often relying on basic or misused terminology like 'crime knowledge' or 'typical condition'. Spelling errors are pervasive throughout the text (e.g., 'exited' instead of 'excited', 'socity' instead of 'society', 'suspend' instead of 'suspense'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey ideas with precision, and the frequent repetition of the same words further limits the lexical variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. Sentence structures are largely simple and often contain errors in subject-verb agreement, article usage, and tense consistency (e.g., 'The took ove the place and make him to demand'). Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic capitalization and misuse of full stops. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. The high frequency of errors in basic grammar, combined with the lack of control over sentence structure, indicates a limited range of grammatical accuracy.
