Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, individuals mostly prefer to watch and read of certain genre of movies or series and books respectively. Crime or Suspense movies or novels are gaining too much popularity day by day because of its engagement and sequence story. The reasons for its fame has been explained in the upcoming paragraphs along with my viewpoints.

First and foremost, the increasing popularity of crime and thriller movies or novels is because of its connectivity. To explain, most of series or movies and novels are divided more than 2 or more parts. Also, after one part of it release and then after certain period another will be come in market. So, waiting for upcoming suspense is increasing its popularity among individuals as everybody share their ideas and opinion that what suppose to do in next part?. Also, crime movies and novels have different kind of animations, fight scenes and narrative description which often allows views to watch or read it until they will find suspense or end of it. These to reasons play vital role in rising popularity of such movies and novels.

Apart from that, my opinion for crime series and books are equal as they have benefits and drawbacks as well. On the positive side, most of the criminal activities and crime scene explore in such movies and books. Therefore, such movies are spreading awareness about many things like, "how crime happens ?" , "how to identify criminals ?" , " what Should do in certain circumstance ?" etc. Hence, preventing crimes or catching criminal would be easier for polices or crime branch. While on negative side, crime dramas or books influence negatively on majorly teenagers' mind. As, they suppose to often watch certain movies with their friends and they might learn "how to threat people?" , "how to have drugs ?" etc. Meantime, these movies or novels effect badly on their minds and behaviours.

In conclusion, although the popularity of crime and thriller movies or novels is on top of all genres because of its engagement and connectivity, it has drawbacks like influence negatively on children's mind while its positive is spreading awareness about criminals activity and crminals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the 'cliffhanger' nature of series and the educational versus negative impact on viewers. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation of why these shows are popular is repetitive, focusing heavily on the 'waiting' aspect. The opinion section is better developed, but the arguments regarding the negative influence on teenagers could be more nuanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more specific examples or deeper analysis rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'Apart from that', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'Meantime' used as a transition. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth flow due to grammatical issues, which occasionally disrupts the progression of ideas. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be improved to ensure a more natural, fluid reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'movies', 'novels', and 'popularity'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'suspense', 'criminal activities', and 'awareness', there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'sequence story' instead of 'serialized storytelling' or 'effect badly' instead of 'negatively affect'. Spelling errors, such as 'polices' and 'crminals', also occur, though they do not significantly impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('reasons... has been explained'), article usage ('in market'), and awkward phrasing ('what suppose to do in next part?'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of quotation marks and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for tense consistency and article usage would be beneficial.
