Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention 'learning about crime' and 'stress relief,' these points are not fully explored or supported with logical depth. The example regarding '70% of people facing mental diseases' is a significant over-generalisation and lacks credibility, which weakens the argument. To improve, ensure that your reasons are logically connected to the prompt and supported by more realistic or well-explained examples. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the response is somewhat superficial.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. Transitions such as 'Moving towards' are used incorrectly, and the connection between sentences is sometimes weak, making the flow feel mechanical. While you use some cohesive devices, they are often repetitive or misused, such as 'to explain more' or 'so that why'. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear topic sentence followed by supporting evidence. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good,' 'interesting,' and 'problem,' and there are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'create suspicious' instead of 'create suspense' and 'filed' instead of 'field.' Some phrases are unidiomatic, such as 'gain more popularity in these days.' To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to the topic (e.g., 'criminology,' 'escapism,' 'psychological thriller') and ensure that you use words in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('crime show become'), incorrect verb forms ('is happen'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed with accurate subordinate clauses.
