Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and the writer's opinion. However, the development is somewhat superficial. The argument that people watch crime dramas to learn how to prevent crime is a bit tenuous and lacks depth. While the writer mentions their own experience with cybercrime, it is not fully integrated into a clear, cohesive opinion on the genre itself. The response tends to over-generalize, and the ideas could be better supported with more specific examples or a more nuanced discussion of why these genres appeal to human psychology.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Commencing with', 'In addition to this', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the discussion of boredom and the fascination with crime. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly repetitive in their structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'unprecedent rate' (should be 'unprecedented') and 'make interest' (should be 'take an interest'). Phrases like 'solid story' and 'consume information' are used, but they do not always convey the intended meaning precisely. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'everyone enjoys to watch' (should be 'enjoys watching'), 'it may hard' (should be 'it may be hard'), and 'people may able to' (should be 'people may be able to'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors in article usage and verb forms. The control of grammar is inconsistent, which limits the score in this criterion.
