Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion—the arguments are underdeveloped and repetitive. For example, you mention 'action' and 'mystery' as reasons for popularity, but these points are not expanded upon with specific examples or logical depth. The position is stated but lacks the necessary elaboration to fully satisfy the task requirements. To improve, you must expand your paragraphs with concrete examples and deeper analysis to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'buy which' (likely intended as 'by which') and 'As it also has'. The transitions between sentences are often abrupt, making the flow of the argument difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple phrasing like 'getting more attention' and 'more and more'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'mystryis' (mysteries), 'friction' (fiction), and 'image' (imagine). These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise and academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'suspense', 'psychological thrillers', 'narrative structure', or 'widespread appeal', and ensure you are using words in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the readability of the text. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'TV shows add’s' and 'everyone think'. Additionally, sentence structures are often simple or contain fragments, such as 'As some TV shows real life incidents to public buy which they get more and more viewership'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of apostrophes. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and proofreading for common errors like incorrect verb forms and run-on sentences.
