Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this modern era , crime movies and series are trending in most of countries. In this, I will discuss the reasons and impacts with my opinion.

Firstly, one of the main reason is that people have more interest in this kind of movies. If more audience wants to watch crime movies .Then, directors will automatically produce this kind of crime movies to generate more money. Furthermore, people get bored to watch same kind of stories due to this they like to watch or read something different that is mysterious and critical. Young generation like to watch more action movies instead of other movies. For example, Crime movies have more views than romantic and

comedy series on Netflix.

However, there are several impacts on society. First and foremost is that increase crime rate. When people always watch crime related showes. Then, they will learn new strategies and skills. People thinks that it is easy to commit crime . Individuals will try to do this kind of things in their real life.A typical example of this is that when someone watch similar kind of stories from longtime and it will change their mindset. Another major impact on children’s. To explain this, kids are in their developing age. They don't know what's right or wrong. So they will learn to do crime from movies. As a result, people will easily break the laws and commit the crime.

In conclusion, although crime movies have unique stories and generates more money , but it have significantly effect on society and people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and offering an opinion on its impact. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding why these shows are popular relies heavily on simple assertions like 'people have more interest in this kind of movies' rather than fully elaborated points. Similarly, the impacts on society and children are stated generally without concrete supporting evidence. While a clear position is established, the arguments remain at a surface level, aligning best with Band 5 or Band 6 descriptors. Given the attempt to address all parts of the prompt with relevant ideas, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, showing a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing is sometimes awkward, and the logical progression between sentences frequently breaks down due to abrupt transitions. For example, sentences are linked with mechanical or disjointed cohesive devices such as 'In this, I will discuss...', 'If more audience wants to watch crime movies .Then, directors will...', and 'When people always watch crime related showes. Then, they will...'. Furthermore, referencing is unclear in places, such as 'This kind of things', which makes it difficult to follow the precise logical thread. This level of organisation and cohesion corresponds to Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent recurrence of words like 'movies', 'crime', 'people', and 'watch'. There are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'critical' used in place of 'gripping' or 'suspenseful', and 'increase crime rate' instead of 'increased crime rates' or 'an increase in crime rates'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, the constant repetition and word choice errors restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('one of the main reason is', 'kids are in their developing age. They don\'t know', 'it have significantly effect'), missing articles ('in most of countries'), and incorrect punctuation spacing. Many complex structures are faulty or awkwardly phrased, causing some difficulty for the reader. These persistent errors across most sentences place the response firmly at Band 5.0.
