Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the contemporary era, there are several countries in which TV shows and novels related to crime are getting extremely popular among the people. There are several reasons that they are getting more attraction than other kind genre dramas. This essay will explore more about the reasons why these crime series are getting more love from the audience than others.
One of the major reason for popularity is real life scenarios and awareness. As we all know, crime rate is increasing day by day. These serials shows the real life incidents that are happening currently in the world. By watching these, people might get aware about the offences and how to be safe from them. For instance, in India, a girl was raped in 2014 and her story was showed on a TV show by changing names and loaction in order to protect privacy. Not only her story but the ways were told how she can be protected at that time. By seeing this show, many girls get to know that these are the routes they can protected and some of them started learning self defence.
In addition to this, crime shows are something different from other fictions. Today's generation is more towards the genre which include thrill, suspense, fight and action rather than watching love shows. For example a research was conducted globally and it was found that 80 percentile of the population is fascinated by crime novels and dramas and only 20 percent of populace is interested in watching love serials.
In the conclusion, I opine these books and dramas should be promoted more so that people will be informed about the criminal doing wrongs and they will also enjoy a different type of fiction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why crime books and TV shows are popular, and the writer's opinion on them. The ideas presented are relevant, focusing on real-life awareness, self-defence, and personal preference for thrilling genres over romance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth. For instance, the example provided about the Indian rape case is specific, but the connection to general crime fiction popularity is a bit weak since true crime documentaries differ slightly from fictional crime dramas. The position is stated clearly in the conclusion, though it could have been introduced more robustly in the introduction. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing reasons and personal opinions, followed by a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'One of the major reason' and 'In addition to this', though some referencing and linking are a bit mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'other kind genre dramas'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher band level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary era', 'fascinated', and 'populace'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as writing 'other kind genre dramas' instead of 'other genres', and 'love shows' or 'love serials' instead of 'romance'. There are also minor spelling and pluralisation errors, such as 'One of the major reason' and 'loaction'. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses ('stories that are happening currently') and conditional/modal structures ('people might get aware'). However, there is a mix of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'how she can be protected at that time' and 'the routes they can protected'. Punctuation and articles are occasionally mishandled. While these errors occur regularly, the majority of simple sentences are clear, and meaning is rarely impeded, which aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor.
